A female charged with pursuing Kate McCann reportedly recorded her a voicemail message which asked: "what if I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who a jury heard has consistently claimed she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are on trial indicted with pursuing Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court learned call records and evidence obtained from phones documented Ms Wandelt persistently demanding Madeleine's mother for a DNA test over that period.

Madeleine's disappearance in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a vacation in Portugal - is one of the most covered missing child cases and continues to be unsolved.

'I Do Not Need Money'

A separate voicemail, presented in court, recorded Ms Wandelt declaring: "I realize I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine used to be, but I know what I know."

While another instance of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's answerphone said: "What if there is a slight possibility that I am she? Then what? Is that not significant for you?"

"I am not seeking money, I possess a life here in Poland, I simply desire to understand," she added.

The panel was told that via electronic messages, mobile messages and calls, Ms Wandelt requested a biological test, sent early photographs to her phone in a effort to show a resemblance to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and stated to have "recollections" from a childhood with the McCanns.

An intelligence analyst, an investigator with the police force who gathered the evidence, advised the court there "showed no any replies" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt additionally contacted family friends of the McCanns, as per the communication logs.

On that date, Gerry McCann responded to a communication from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, stating she had "incorrect contact information."

On that occasion Ms Wandelt left a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail stating "I will continue and I intend to demonstrate my point."

The court heard Mrs Spragg struck up a connection online with Ms Wandelt prior to accompanying her on a appearance to the McCanns' residence in Leicestershire in that winter.

Phone records showed Mrs Spragg had contacted using messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the news outlets had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the time leading up to the trip to the village, Leicestershire, in that winter.

The court learned communications between the two defendants, in November 2024, discussing attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her garbage or from utensils at a eating establishment.

"We need to take action," Mrs Spragg informed Ms Wandelt.

On the occasion of the trip to their house, Mrs Spragg dispatched a message which said: "We find ourselves positioned outside the McCanns' home with our lights out resembling investigators. I desired to achieve this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."
